build quick links to your new site

So, your new site is ready. But unfortunately, no one knows about it. You want it to bring in visitors and convert them into successful customers. You want it to be the ultimate lead generating machine that could turn your business from zero to a hero. These 5 link building strategies will help you to quickly build links to your new site.

All sites are built with this dream that ultimately it will be a game changer for their business. But only a few succeed. Most of them dwindle into oblivion after a few years. How do you make sure you are not one of them? How do you ensure survival and success?

The key is SEO, and particularly, link building SEO.

Links Can Make Or Break a Site

Google is the number one site in the world. It touches people’s lives in innumerable ways than one can comprehend. Google processes over 40,000 searches every second on average according to this site here. That’s an enormous figure. It translates to over 2 million 400 thousand searches every minute. I wouldn’t attempt calculating per hour or day. I think we are convinced that the figure is staggering.

Whatever services you are offering, people are searching for them. Being on the first page for a few of your chosen keywords can translate into a lot of cash for your business. Therefore, it is no surprise that Google first page is prime property. And there is a lot of competition to be among the top ten.

It is not easy to be on the first page for a competitive keyword. But it is not impossible either. If those ten sites can make it, so can your site. You just need to learn the tricks of the trade.

The number one factor that can put you on the first page of Google search results is Link Building. That is why link building is so important.

So, how to build links to my website, you ask? Read on to find out.

How to Build Links The Legit Way

Your site is new and you want to build up high authority links as soon as possible. After all, that is what will propel it to the first page of Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). But in your hurry, do not get tempted to use Black hat or old school method of building links that no longer work.

They will not only not help you. But may also penalize your site and hamper your SEO ranking efforts.

SEO is more like an art. You have broader guidelines, and you can do many things staying within those frameworks. No one can say, do this and you will get exactly this result like you do in mathematics. But rather you apply your creativity and imagination.

One can show you the way, but you will need to figure out the nuances and intricacies involved by applying it firsthand. You then learn what works best for you.

Without further ado, let’s dive straight in and check out a few of the link building plans you can use to garner links for your new site.

#1 – Local Link Building: Tapping into Local Resources for Links.

I think the first step for links should be to look at local link building resources where your business is situated. You want your business to be known locally first. Think of all the steps you can take to achieve this.

  1. Listing with Local Directories

Reach out to local business directories and ask them to list your business. When I say directory, I don’t mean just any directory, that no one uses. Spammy directories that are created just for the sake of it, should be avoided at all cost.

Our link building strategy should always be to get links that are of high quality. Listings that would send traffic your way. Links that your users will find and use to get to your site. And finally, strive to get links from reputable sites.

  2. Top Business Listings.

You should do a quick search in Google for top business listings. Suppose you are a design company and your business is based in London. Then you will search for “listing of web design companies in London”.

And you are presented with a list of posts listing web design companies in London.

You can reach out to them and ask that your company can be listed as well. You can get more of such lists by changing your search term.

  3. List Your Business with Google My Business

Create your business profile on Google My Business. It is like a local business profile for the company on Google. You can add images, working hours, contact info and more. Once Google verifies your listing your business is eligible to appear in Google local searches.

The more people find you, the more chances you have of people writing about you, blogging about you, writing reviews etc. All these can increase your chances of getting more links.

There are innumerable sources of links you can look for when you are just starting out with your new business.

Taking your blog to a position where it can generate leads for you is, of course, not an easy task. It requires a substantial amount of hard work and dedication. Let’s move forward to our next step.

#2 – Create A Job Page & Advertise It

Businesses are always in need for fresh talent. Most of the time there is a vacant position that needs to be filled. This is true for both new and established businesses.

Even if you don’t need someone right away, but may need a position to be filled in the near future. It is always difficult to find someone right away. Therefore, it is good to be proactive and advertise your vacancies from time to time.

There are many free job sites where you can list your requirement. This usually means creating a business profile with the job portals. They almost always have a field for your website URL. This, in turn, can translate to nice authoritative backlinks to your site.

My recommendation is not to leave out the paid job listing sites. These are the ones that your competitors might overlook. Therefore, you will have links that your competitors may not.

Here is a list of 50 top job sites to get started with.

Also, don’t forget to create a job page on your own site too. When you advertise the jobs, people would have an option to check out the jobs on your own site. This would encourage sharing and linking to that page. In turn you will create many new links to your site.

#3 – PR link building: To Build Relationships & Links

Yes, Public Relations is perhaps the most effective way to gain authoritative links. There are different link building strategies you can follow here.

Press Releases are a great way to put your website or idea in the public domain. If it gets picked up by other influential media outlets, you can expect some very good link backs to your site. But unless otherwise you do some preparations, the chances of this happening are quite slim.

This brings me to my next point, reaching out to the right people who can help you spread your story. Find out more about the bloggers & journalists who are writing on the same topic as yours. Identify them and make a list. See what they have written in the past and if it is pertaining to your own niche. Have they covered similar topics and ideas? If yes, you would want to get to know them better.

Follow them on Twitter and on other social media profiles they have. Like & comment on what they share. This should bring you to their attention.

Then find out their email id and pitch to them your idea on how you can be a source of their next story. You are bound to face a lot of rejections. But a few yes is all you are looking for.

A few Press mentions & write up about your new website on other blogs, can generate a lot of trust and links for your new site.

#4 – Competitive Link Building

This is indeed a great strategy to see what your competitors are up to. Identify your competitors first. This shouldn’t be too difficult for you if you have already identified the keywords you are targeting.

  1. Make A List of Your Competitors

Search for those keywords in Google and analyze the search results. Those are the businesses you are competing against. Note them down in a list. Some of the competitors you may already be aware of. And some may be new to you. Nevertheless, add them all to the list. You want to see what they have done and how you can emulate their success.

Most likely you will see that they have taken care of their on-page SEO. They are creating good content. And most importantly, they have a good backlink profile that Google likes.

We are interested in the later. We want to find out the sites that are linking to your competitors, that gives them the competitive edge.

  2. Analyze Your Competitors Backlink Profile

Many years ago, I used to use the Google Link Command. The syntax is “link:raycreations.net”. That is, the word “link”, followed by a semi color, and then your URL.

Of course, you would use your competitor’s URL. It used to give the most important links to that site. Then you could go to that site and see how you can get a link from there. After all, if your competitor can get a link from here, why can’t you?

Unfortunately, the Google Link Command is dead now. I mean, technically, you can still use it. But the results are irrelevant. You can still get a glimpse of some of the sites linking to them. But you don’t have a way to tell, which are the important sites you need to be going after. Moreover, Google does not recommend using it anymore.

So, it’s been a long time that I have ditched it for good.

  3. Use Third Party Back Link Checking & Link Building Tools

So, what do webmasters do now? Well, there are plenty of third-party free & paid software you can use to analyze your competitor’s backlinks. Plus, you get tons of other valuable metrics that tell you which links are important and which are not.

    You can evaluate the following:

    1. The total number of backlinks.
    2. You can gauge the domain authority of the linking sites.
    3. Follow Links Vs No follows links.
    4. Top anchor texts etc.

Some of the link building tools you can use includes:

    1. SEOprofiler
    2. Ahref
    3. SemRush
    4. Majestic

I use a paid version of SEMRush, and I love using it. It provides tons of actionable metrics I can use.

All link building tools above are great and allow free usage to a certain extent. But I felt it is more like a sneak peek into what you can get if you pay for it. More like, enticing you to pay up. The tools are no good unless you purchase a plan from them.

But if you are looking for a free link building tool, I think SEOprofiler is a great tool to use. It is a free tool and gives you lots of actionable data.

backlink analysis

Repeat the process to get backlinks for as many competitors as you can. And you will have enough data to keep you busy for a long time. Some links will be easier to get and some will need extra work.

It is a quick way to build those much-needed links for your new site. But do keep in mind, it is not the quantity but the quality of links that matter.

#5 – Offer Resources for Free & Giveaway

Everyone loves free stuff. But of course, it must be useful and should create value. If you are a design company, you could probably spare some resources to create graphics, icons or infographics. These can then be given away for free. People love to write and share about such resources. And therefore, it could become a good source of links to your site in the long run.

Resources would also mean writing articles and tutorials that others find useful. If it is good and adds value, then there is a good chance that people will reference that resource and would want to share it with their own users. In turn getting your site valuable links.

The more exciting the offer is the more people will participate, making it a success.

Conclusion

These link building strategies are proven ways to build links quickly to your new site. Of course, there are many other ways one can use to gain links over time. But as I said, this article is about building links at a fast pace to your new site. Links are critical to ranking and online visibility. Therefore, the more links you build quickly the better.

These are strategies you can use to build links without the fear of getting penalized by Google.

I would be eager to learn what you thought of my article. And the suggestions and feedback you want to give regarding this article.
